Mosaic Workshop
This class is designed for someone with little to no mosaic or glass experience. Learn all the steps in mosaic cutting materials, gluing, grouting,and finishing the project. Students can choose from the following: Mirror frame 10"x10", stepping stone, or a picture frame.

NEED min 4 students to hold class
MAX number in a class will be 6

After much work and preparation I finally have a new line of mosaics. Mosaic dogs so far I have completed a Jack Russell and a Scottie dog. They are life size and have a fused glass eye, I top them off with a dog collar and a engraved dog tag.

Here is a photo of my life size mosaic zebra. This took forever to make I have 2 weeks of work in the beaded mane alone, the mane is over 12oo feet of wire and seed beads.

Last Summer I was commissioned to make a pair of over sized pileated wood peckers

Last fall I took my mother to Rome and Venice. While in Venice we went over to the Island of Murano. Some of the materials I use in my mosaics are made there like the smalti and millefiori. Below are some examples of my work with the Italian materials.

This is the Queen Califia's Magic Circle in Escondido California it

The materials range from colored mirror, glass gems, ceramic tiles and stones.

The circular Snake wall is 400 feet long and ranges from 4 to 9 feet high

This scuplture is 24' x 22'x 20' and the egg is a solar powered fountain

There are a total of 8 totems ranging from 11 feet tall to 21 feet tall.

My Favorite Place In The World!

I love parrots so when we first went to Australia when I was in 5th grade it was so exciting to see wild parrots flying around. One Day we traveled from Brisbane up the Gold Coast to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and all my dreams came true I was able to have the wild parrots land on me and feed them. So when we went back to Australia in 2006 the one thing on my list was to go back and feed the rainbow lorikeets!

Wednesday I went back to Seattle to get glass. Living on a island is different when you go into Seattle every detail is planned so you dont miss the boat. (Below) Is a older ferry docked for work on Bainbridge Island.

This is the current ferry boats that are used to shuttle over 11 million cars and 26 million people a year.

Back from the city the glass survived the trip home. This glass is for the mural project on top is the blue for the sky, green for grass, brown for tree trunks, and dark green for trees.

Northwest Glass

I went to Northwest Glass on Thursday and selected colors for the mural project. Picked out the colors for the trees, sky, and mountains. Northwest Glass is a wholesale warehouse in Redmond Washington. This is a mosaic or stained glass artist heaven there is so much glass, tools, and every other supply an artist could ever want. I will primarily use Bullseye glass which is made in Portland Oregon and Spectrum glass which is made in Woodinville Washington.

Welcome to the Vatican Mosaic Studio

Last Fall my mother and I went to Rome and Venice we had about 4 days in Rome and 4 days in Venice. I decided because the trip was so short that we would hire a private guide for Rome http://www.vaticantoursinc.com/ we did 3 tours in Rome the last one was the Vatican in this tour our guide was able to get the permits so we could go into the mosaic studio (which is not open to the public). In the studio they 5-6 people working on commissions and gifts that the pope can give to visiting dignitaries.

To the right you will see a case that's were they have a catalog of colors so that they can repair the existing mosaics that are throughout the Vatican. To the left you can see them working there is only 3 artist in the shot they asked me not to photograph a large commission that the fourth artist was working on. It was huge and had taken him years and years to complete he had about 6 months left to go on it. Its a very quite room some of the artist have head phones on.

This is one of the workstations you can see the little boxes of smalti and to the left of the chair on the rectangle wood block is the hammer and hardie (which is the authentic way to cut smalti)

Our tour guide took this picture for us. The mosaic studio for me was the whole reason to visit the Vatican and the reason we stayed an extra day in Rome.

This is a very exciting for me to introduce this to the world Mosaicadermy this is my version of taxidermy. This female deer is made from glass tiles with the color palate of spring vibrant colors.

Northwest Mural Day 1

Today was so fun I went to Northwest Trek http://www.nwtrek.org/ this is day 1 for the second mural for Westfield Southcenter Mall. We had 70 third graders from Tukwila Elementary come and draw the images for the northwest mural they were great we got lots of fun images birds, whales, deer, bears, owls and lots more!

Northwest Trek is so great they have a tram that takes you through a wide open area where there are Bighorn Sheep, Trumpet Swans, Bison, Mountain Goats, Deer, Elk, Caribou, and Moose. The park is 723 Acres and is so beautiful.

Mosaic of the week ~ Giant Ants

I love this time of year because I get to work on big wild designs. Giant ants popped into my head last fall after I finished all my Christmas shows I was able to start work on them. I present to you my giant ants!

Rain Forest Mural Day 1

Started work on my mural project for Westfield Southcenter Mall went to the Tacoma zoo and had 70 3rd graders from Thorndyke Elementary. The children will be providing me with the images for the project.

Here we are all lined up for our group photo. Then we all went into the educational center where the zoo keepers spoke to us about the rain forest and the animals that live there.

They brought out the sloth first the zookeeper was feeding her grapes as she walked around with her.

Then she brought out a fruit bat!

Then it was time for the kids to start drawing the images for the mural, they did a really good job we got lots of butterflies, frogs, monkeys, jaguars, a few sloths, spiders, and snakes.

It was a real pleasure working with this group of kids they were knowledgeable, excited and a great bunch of little artist.

And a visit to the zoo is not complete unless you visit the penguins!

These are my co-workers (below) is Bee she is a 3 year old red doberman pincher who loves to play with her toys, sunny afternoons and walks.

This is Lucy she is the latest edition to the family she is 6 months old she also loves to play with toys. She is a little shy to strangers and is at that great age when she gets into everything!

Welcome to my studio after a whole week of cleaning im ready to show you all.

As you can see I have alot of things in my studio.

The reason for my early spring clean is that I will be making two mosaic murals for Westfield Southcenter Mall in Tukwila,Washington http://westfield.com/southcenter/. In total it will be 150 square feet of mosaics, the first mural will be a tropical rainforest and the second will be a Northwest themed mural. I will be working with local 3rd grade Elementary School children and they will be drawing the images for the mural. So check back for photo updates of my progress.
